Today was Republic Day in India, which is a national holiday. In the morning, we watched the Republic Day Parade on TV. As you might have known, the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, invited our president, Barack Obama, to be the Chief Guest of Republic Day. It is a big day because it was the first time India invited a Chief Guest from the United States. In the parade, each state had its own float. They showed lots of famous things they do in their state. We also went for "Ziyarat", which is how people of my religion pay their respects to family members and leaders who have died. First, we did Ziyarats for 2 leaders. The tomb was called Raudat Tahera. This building is made of white marble, and the inside walls were covered with Arabic writing made with gold and rubies. After that, we did "Ziyarat" for my mom's grandparents. In the evening, we went back to my mom's aunt's house. After dinner, we played garbage and watched the same movie that we watched yesterday. |
